What does pleasantly confused mean

I asked her if she had slept late or maybe taken a nap. She said that she was not sure. When I probed further, she was uncertain of what she had done that day, including whether or not she had eaten. I assured her that I would be right back. When I asked the staff if they had detected anything different about my mother, no one had noticed a change.

They assured me she had eaten her meals and participated in activities. I felt a slight bit of relief. I visited a while longer before bidding my mother goodbye so I could get home before the groceries I had purchased spoiled. I continued to feel uneasy at home and asked my husband if he might come with me to see mom. When he asked her the names of her two children, she correctly identified my brother and sister. The nurse came to check her blood pressure and temperature.

She asked my mother to smile, answer a few questions and to grip her fingers. Has 20 years experience. JNF RN. Specializes in Hospice. Has 18 years experience. After giving AM care and dressing them I would wheel them out to the lobby as she loved to watch the traffic, passersby, etc. Every day, like clockwork, she told me how much she liked this "hotel" and I was her favorite "bell boy".

She would go on about other hotels where the service was not as good as it was here. This is what I call pleasantly confused. In her world she was being pampered in a hotel rather than spending her last days in a nursing home. If you have to have dementia, this is the kind to have. I would go ahead and use "pleasantly confused". Well, this is the first time I have heard of this phrase. I don't see anything wrong with it if it describes the situation well.

CapeCodMermaid, RN. Specializes in Gerontology, Med surg, Home Health. Has 30 years experience. I had a doc write LOL in his progress note one day. I asked him if he was laughing out loud about something and he said, "No, it means little old lady". When I asked him if he would want that in a permanent medical record if it ever went to court he said Yikes May 4, Thank you for your responses.

Chaplains report on spiritual issues. The bereavement and volunteer coordinators take notes and assign counselors and volunteers to help where needed. This team performs at the highest level and it takes its work very seriously. There are light-hearted moments, too. But what does it really mean? Memory may be failing. Health is certainly failing. Regular visitors, even family members may not be recognized.

But their lighter side is still with them. They are pleasant people. Know what, it sounds like a blessing to me.
