Destination Expert for Washington DC. Ask a question. How many days in each? Best area to stay. They have a route that goes into the Tysons Westpark area which isn't all that far from the Galleria. You can take a look at:.
Eventually, Metro rail is expected to come to the Tysons area but not until which some say is a conservative estimate. However, for now, public transportation in the area is sorely lacking. I agree with SueFee about the lacking of service to this area, but the mass transit system is excellent in comparison to other major cities and they have added 12 stations since they started operation and the ridership has increased at such a rapid pace the transit athority has experienced difficulties from their own success!!!
If you go to www. I was just in DC and faced a similar problem. I too, used the Metro's trip planner, but there is no way to get from Tysons Corner to Tysons Galleria or at least I couldn't figure it out.
You can take a bus to each mall from the train station a bit of a hassle, especially to the Galleria , but like Sue said, you would have to walk across a VERY busy highway to reach either mall.

Tysons Corner is notorious for it's poor traffic planning, traffic tie-ups, and just plain suburban ugliness.
If you are in the mood to shop, I suggest the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City , which is a fairly large, upscale mall, that has almost every kind of store that you would need.
I live near it, and I have a car , and I never feel the need to go to Tysons Corner.
